What you can use right away

  • Discovery comes before a solution.
  • Translate technical trade-offs into customer impact.
  • Use real customer stories without exposing confidential details.

Lead with discovery, not a demo

Ask about the customer’s goal, current workflow, users, constraints, decision process, and definition of success. A solution proposed before these answers is a feature dump, even when technically correct.

Then summarize what you heard and state the decision you are optimizing for: speed, risk reduction, adoption, cost, or compliance. This shows the interviewer how you would earn the right to recommend.

Try this checklist

  • Prepare five discovery questions for every scenario.
  • Practice a 30-second summary of needs and success criteria.
  • Name one technical trade-off in customer language.

Tell a credible customer story

Use a real project with the customer and company anonymized: initial need, stakeholder tension, options, recommendation, outcome, and what you learned. Do not claim you “persuaded” everyone; show how you surfaced risk and earned alignment.

InterviewTrail AI is designed to store these customer scenarios alongside projects and interview notes. That makes the same evidence reusable for a solutions round, stakeholder interview, or behavioral question.
